Debian/GNU Linux Lenny AMD64 auf einem Sony VGN-AR61ZU Laptop

Einleitung

Dies ist eine kurze Anleitung zur Installation von Debian/GNU Linux Lenny AMD64 64bit auf einem Sony VAIO VGN-AR61ZU 17-Zoll Notebook.

Installation

Das bei der Auslieferung vorhandene Betriebssystem wurde gelöscht und der bestehende Raidverbund (RAID 0) im BIOS aufgehoben. Die beiden Festplatten können somit unabhängig voneinander genutzt werden. Die Installation erfolgte mit einer Debian "testing" (Lenny) CD. Zur eigentlichen Installation gibt es nicht viel zu sagen, CD einlegen und 20 Minuten später hat man ein lauffähiges System. Es wurde wegen der guten Prozessorunterstützung sowie den 4 GB RAM ein 64-bit System gewählt.

Es wurde der binäre, nicht freie Treiber von NVidia in der Version 169.12 (64bit) benutzt.

Die Schriftgröße der Standardkonfiguration erscheint recht gross und unschön. Eine elegantere Schriftgröße kann mit Option "DPI" "96 x 96" erreicht werden. Details im Abschnitt xorg.conf im Anhang. Der zweite Monitor (und mehr) kann über das mitgelieferte tool "nvidia-settings" bequem eingestellt werden. Nach einem Kernelupdate ist folgendes einzugeben, damit der passende Treiber für die Grafikkarte gebaut wird: /usr/src/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-169.12-pkg2.run -K -n -a

Die Helligkeit für das booten kann in /sys/devices/platform/sony-laptop/brightness_default geregelt werden.

Die Soundkarte wird vom Treiber snd-hda-intel erkannt. Scheinbar kann das eingebaute Mikrofon nicht benutzt werden, der externe Eingang funktioniert jedoch.

USB-Geräte funktionieren wie erwartet ohne Probleme

Kamera

Der Rechner verfügt über eine eingebaute Kamera, die jedoch mit dem installiertem Standardkernel der Distribution nicht funktioniert, es werden weitere Treiber benötigt. Der Benutzer benötigt die Gruppenrechte "video", um auf die Kamera zugreifen zu können. Die Kamera liefert für eine eingebaute Kamera sehr gute Bilder, auch bei schwachen Lichtverhältnissen.

dmesg gibt folgendes aus, wenn der Treiber geladen wird:

den Treiber für ein automatisches Laden entweder in eine udev-Regel einbinden oder in /etc/modules hinzufügen.

LinDVD/libdvdcss/xine

Nach Installation von xine, regionset und libdvdcss ist das abspielen einer DVD problemlos möglich. Vor dem ersten Abspielen einer DVD muss der Regionalcode des Laufwerks mit dem Programm regionset gesetzt werden. Sollte vor dem Umstellen des Regionalcodes schon einmal ein Abspielltest erfolgt sein: bitte das Verzeichnis ~/.libdvdcss löschen und noch einmal versuchen.

Ein Abspieltest einer DVD wurde mit dem kommerziellen Programm LinDVD durchgeführt, das für ca. 40 Euro erhältlich ist. Ich habe die "Debian"-Variante getestet. Das deb-Paket lässt sich von dpkg nicht ohne die Option -force- architecture oder -force-all unter einem 64-bit System installieren, funktioniert dann aber dennoch sehr gut, da keinerlei zusätzliche Bibliotheken benötigt werden und der Prozessor in der Lage ist 32-bit Code auszuführen. DVD's ansehen ist also kein Problem.

Etwas schlechter sieht es bei Blu-Ray Videos aus. Zwar spielen mplayer und xine auch Blu-Ray DVD's ab, jedoch müssen diese dazu eingehangen werden, was bei meinem Test misslang.

Suspend

Ein Suspend to RAM (S3) und ein Suspend to Disk (S4) funktionieren ohne Probleme, jedoch dauert das Aufwachen aus dem S3 manchmal etwas länger als gewöhnlich, jedoch immer erfolgreich.

CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Laufwerk

Das Gerät wird korrekt erkannt und unterstützt. CD/DVD brennen ist über die bekannten Tools möglich. Brennen von Blu-Ray wird derzeit nur von dvd-rw-tools auf der Kommandozeile unterstützt. Um beispielsweise das Verzeichnis /usr/src/ auf eine Rlu-Ray Disk Rohling zu brennen:

K3B unterstützt leider in der getesteten Version (1.04) kein Blu-Ray. Ist man zum Brennen auf die grafische Oberfläche angewiesen ist man zur Zeit mit dem kommerziellen, nicht quelloffenen Programm Nero am besten bedient. Mit einer heruntergeladenen Testversion Nero 3.5.0.1 gab es keine Schwierigkeiten. K3B dürfte aber in absehbarer Zeit ebenfalls Unterstützung für Blu-Ray mitbringen, da die wichtigsten Funktionen bereits in die darunter liegenden Programme implementiert wurden. Laut Dokumentation ist auch bei cdrtools (ab cdrtools-2.01.01a29) Support für Blu-Ray implementiert, das Original cdrecord von Jörg Schilling habe ich jedoch nicht getestet.

PCMCIA/PCI-Express Karten

SD/Memory-Stick Kartenleser

Der Kartenleser braucht die Module tifm_core, tifm_sd, tifm_7xx1, mmc_core, mmc_block

Wenn auch Memorysticks genutzt werden wird zusätzlich noch das Modul tifm_ms benötigt (ab Kernel 2.6.25 enthalten).

Wer die Module aus Subversion installieren möchte, findet folgend eine kurze Anleitung. Mit Revision 161 war leider kein Kompilieren gegen den von mir verwendeten Kernel 2.6.24-1-amd64 möglich, deswegen funktionierte der Memorystick bei mir nicht.

Tuner/Fernbedienung

Habe ich nicht zum Laufen bekommen. Für die Karte ist das Modul saa7134 mit Extraparameter zuständig (ungetestet: modprobe saa7134 card=104 tuner=71 oder card=99).

Firewire

Der Controller wird zwar erkannt und die Module laden, dennoch konnte keine Firewire-Festplatte in Betrieb genommen werden. Nach kurzer Zeit erscheint eine Fehlermeldung:

VMware-Server

Es wurde ein VMware-Server 1.5 installiert. Damit diese Software zum Debian-Kernel kompiliert werden kann müssen die gleichen gcc und g++ Versionen installiert sein, mit denen der Kernel kompiliert wurde (das ist nicht Standard). Weiterhin wird wie üblich ein any-any-patch benötigt.
